Starting to feel a bit better now so still hope to get out and about on my two days off work this week. <br /> <br />My last post was on the timetable changes confirmed for the Ugobus 7,11, 15, and 17 in two weeks time. Today we get a hint of further timetable changes due in March: <br /> <br />PH0004983/32 - FIRST DEVON &amp; CORNWALL LTD, THE RIDE, CHELSON MEADOW, PLYMOUTH, PL9 7JT Variation Accepted: Operating between TAVISTOCK Bus Station and PLYMOUTH Bus Station given service number 83/185/185S/83A/83D/84/84A/85/86 effective from 14-Mar-2010. To amend Timetable. <br /> <br />PH0004983/335 - FIRST DEVON &amp; CORNWALL LTD, THE RIDE, CHELSON MEADOW, PLYMOUTH, PL9 7JT Variation Accepted: Operating between Plymouth Royal Parade and Saltash given service number 1/1A effective from 14-Mar-2010. To amend Route and Timetable. <br /> <br />Of course it is too early to speculate as to what these changes will be. We do know that First are to receive several more Dennis Tridents from London shortly and that their use would be revealed later. This does imply that they are planned to operate on a specific route and the Tavistock services would be ideal candidates. It is not uncommon to see double deckers, often Tridents on the route with the Tavylinx Volvos to be seen elsewhere. <br /> <br />Of course I could be barking up the wrong tree here, but fingers crossed anyway. <a title="First 34614 K614LAE by didbygraham, on Flickr" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/didbygraham/4300674513/"> <br /><img alt="First 34614 K614LAE" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4021/4300674513_cec1356439_b.jpg" width="820" /></a> <br />I will catch up with Twitter and other web sites shortly! <p></p> <div></div> <p></p> <div></div> <div></div> <div></div> <div></div> <div></div> <div></div> <div></div> <div></div> <div></div> </td> </tr> </tbody></table> <div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/11828686-9117236404390379759?l=www.plymothiantransit.com' alt='' /></div><img alt="" src="http://xfruits.com/didbygraham/?id=67157&amp;s_item=493577308" />

      <title>An ice day in Plymouth</title>

Waiting on Miller way though it was clear that conditions were getting worse, not better. I finally got a 50 at just after 8:30 which slowly and very carefully made its way through to Derriford. We saw three 15's coming the other way too so they were getting back to normal again pretty quickly. There were a few minor accidents and a lot of near misses - buses trying to turn into and out of Asda were having problems - glad I wasn't travelling that way myself. <br />Sparksy on the Radio summed it up quite nicely: Very icy and roads don't seem to have been gritted. Be careful out there this morning! <br /> <br /><em>Bus routes were scrapped and motorists faced rush hour delays and diversions as a number of roads across Plymouth became dangerous or unpassable. Police had reports of a number of minor incidents, motorists reversing up one-way roads to avoid ice, injured cyclists and a crash involving a bus. At 8.20am a Plymouth Citybus bus, which was carrying passengers, skidded on ice on Commercial Road, Coxside, and hit bollards on the pavement</em>. <a href="http://www.thisisplymouth.co.uk/news/Ice-brings-traffic-trouble-Plymouth/article-1783849-detail/article.html" target="_blank">This is Plymouth</a> <br /> <br />Richard Holifield, Plymouth transport and highways manager, said seven gritters treated the city’s primary routes last night. An Early Morning Inspection (EMI) was also carried out at 4.30am today and the primary routes were re-treated. “This is still the normal routine at the moment,” he said. <br /><!-- Main text Ends Here --></td> </tr> <tr> <td valign="top" width="830"> <br /> <table border="0" cellspacing="10" cellpadding="2" width="839"><tbody> <tr> <td valign="top" width="419"><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/CSCYz4g9Lxv6rOZbT1QMoQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img border="0" align="left" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_r7QPHuRQWTI/Sy9hEEXlymI/AAAAAAAAA1E/ca_1pzy5HgA/s800/TwitterBadge.jpg" width="50" /></a> <!-- Twitter table starts here -->First on Twitter / Facebook <br /><font size="1"><!-- add new tweets here with date above (FDC) --><strong>31 Jan 2010</strong> <br />16:47 REMEMBER Followers of FirstBus_Devon as of 23:59 tonight go into draw to win a months free bustravel. Austin Crescent and Keswick Crescent are off limits. Expect problems on Monday morning if no gritting is done which seems unlikely based on past experience. Updates will be posted tomorrow morning once we have an idea of any problem areas <br /><strong>1 Feb 2010 <br /></strong>07:01Most minor and some main roads in Plymouth are very icy. Buses are operating on the main roads only in many areas of the City. St Peter's Road is definately out as is Merafield. Yellowtor Road and Pilmere are out with the service 26 turning at the Ploughboy Inn. More details as they come in <br />07:26 Kings Tamerton, Bircham View and Austin Crescent are out. No sign of gritters and no one answering phones at Highways <br />08:47 Barne Barton is the latest area to add to the list of places we cannot serve. Problems now on the Barbican, Ringmore Way, Honicknowle Green, and we have a bus stuck in Oreston. Please take care out there. Cattedown, St Pancras Avenue, and ASDA are all now out of bounds to buses. <br />09:37 Due to a Police road closure in the Efford area the services 46 and 47 are now unable to serve Lower Compton or Efford Crematorium. Buses have been diverted via Eggbuckland Road and Henders Corner <br />10:07 Efford Road now repoened. services 46 and 47 back to normal route. Still slippery in the area so expect some delays <br />10:54 Kings Tamerton now open service 16 back to normal. St Peter's Road is also open again to buses <br />11:37 Now back in ASDA, Pilmere (but not Yellowtor), and Austin Crescent - still checking other roads <br />12:13 Oreston now open. The only places currently not seeing buses are - Barne Barton, and Yellowtor Road. Inspections still ongoing in these areas. All services as normal bar these <br />12:36 Yellowtor Road is now ice free and so at last we can now say that all routes are open to us and everything is running as it should be. Thank you all for your patience today. <br /></font></td> </tr> </tbody></table> <!-- Twitter Logo Badge --> <h5><font size="1"> <br /></font><!-- Badges--><a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Plymouth/PlymothianTransitcom/90882633480"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_r7QPHuRQWTI/Sj-0-QOe6oI/AAAAAAAAApU/Z1q2Ds1O9M0/s288/PTFacebook.jpg" width="100" /></a> <a title="PlymTransit on Twitter" href="https://twitter.com/PlymTransit"><img alt="PlymTransit on Twitter" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_r7QPHuRQWTI/SktRBsOXxpI/AAAAAAAAAqQ/7fqUODXa0TM/s144/twitter-logo.jpg" width="80" /></a> </h5> </td> </tr> </tbody></table> <div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/11828686-4520688711059910255?l=www.plymothiantransit.com' alt='' /></div><img alt="" src="http://xfruits.com/didbygraham/?id=67157&amp;s_item=493577312" />

He likes the big Volvo Wright buses that have been used on the 15s since it started and was a bit disappointed that this one turned up. <a title="First 42563 SN05DZZ by didbygraham, on Flickr" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/didbygraham/4310343466/"><img alt="First 42563 SN05DZZ" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4009/4310343466_4aeb6050a5_b.jpg" width="820" /></a> <br />I must admit I have been surprised at how consistent First have been with the allocation of buses to their recent Ugobus service like the 15. This is the first Dart I have seen used on the 15, and I assumed it was just a breakdown cover or something, although another commenter noted on Saturday: &quot;Non B7's working 15 and older buses on 17&quot; <br />On a totally selfish note I do hope this is not the beginning of a trend as although there is no good reason for the 15 to have the best buses, it would be sad to loose them to lesser, albeit probably busier routes. The Dart, although not much older than the Volvos was a lot louder than the Volvos and gave a much harsher ride. <!-- Main text Ends Here --></td> </tr> <tr> <td valign="top" width="830"><!-- Post Footer details go here --><!-- Twitter Logo Badge --> <h5><font size="1"> <br /></font><!-- Badges--><a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Plymouth/PlymothianTransitcom/90882633480"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_r7QPHuRQWTI/Sj-0-QOe6oI/AAAAAAAAApU/Z1q2Ds1O9M0/s288/PTFacebook.jpg" width="100" /></a> <a title="PlymTransit on Twitter" href="https://twitter.com/PlymTransit"><img alt="PlymTransit on Twitter" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_r7QPHuRQWTI/SktRBsOXxpI/AAAAAAAAAqQ/7fqUODXa0TM/s144/twitter-logo.jpg" width="80" /></a> </h5> </td> </tr> </tbody></table> <div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/11828686-7952081980010905603?l=www.plymothiantransit.com' alt='' /></div><img alt="" src="http://xfruits.com/didbygraham/?id=67157&amp;s_item=493577313" />

An interesting addition. <br />I have been meaning to show this great shot of Plymouth Health Authority's Leyland National ETT319Y since I came across it. I have spent a fair bit of time trying to upload my recent photos taken last weekend, just down the road from where this photo was taken. It was often to be found parked up here on Western Approach where it was used on a shuttle service to Moorhaven Hospital near Ivybridge. <br />This was the second Leyland National used on this service although I cant for the life of mew remember the registration of the previous one. <br />It was replaced by a fairly plain white Mercedes Bread minibus in 1988 I believe. The bus then went to Nottingham City Transport. <!-- Main text Ends Here --></td> </tr> <tr> <td valign="top" width="830"><!-- Post Footer details go here --> <h5>Further Reading</h5> <br /><a href="http://omnibuses.blogspot.com/2010/01/foot-shooting.html" target="_blank">Omnibuses: Foot shooting</a> <br /><a href="http://omnibuses.blogspot.com/2010/01/bolt-from-blues.html" target="_blank">Omnibuses: Bolt from the Blues</a> <br /><a href="http://ptotpa.blogspot.com/2010/01/new-style-of-advert-for-plymouth.html" target="_blank">PTOTPA: Advert</a> <br /> <br /> <table border="0" cellspacing="10" cellpadding="2" width="839"><tbody> <tr> <td valign="top" width="419"><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/CSCYz4g9Lxv6rOZbT1QMoQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img border="0" align="left" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_r7QPHuRQWTI/Sy9hEEXlymI/AAAAAAAAA1E/ca_1pzy5HgA/s800/TwitterBadge.jpg" width="50" /></a> <!-- Twitter table starts here -->First on Twitter / Facebook 28 Jan 2010 <br /><font size="1"><!-- add new tweets here with date above (FDC) -->17:28 JANUARY SALE ENDS SUNDAY! When I first saw this example, and I think there is more than one, it struck me as a slightly better compromise in that at least it left most windows free. It was only when I had a closer look at the photo that I realised how smart First have been. It actually looks like there is some sort of frame around the advert, rather than just being stuck over the windows. This makes it tidier and I guess easier to apply to the bus. I have been a passenger on this bus, and at first I didn't even notice the advert which I guess is an improvement. Maybe if I was sat on the seats right next to it I may have done, but back in my normal seats the bus seemed just as bright and airy as these buses normally do. <a title="First 69077 SF06GYA by didbygraham, on Flickr" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/didbygraham/4297915693/"><img alt="First 69077 SF06GYA" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2736/4297915693_66128aa55b_b.jpg" width="820" /></a> <!-- Main text Ends Here --></td> </tr> <tr> <td valign="top" width="830"><!-- Post Footer details go here --> <h5>Further Reading</h5> <br /><a href="http://plymouthlocalhistory.blogspot.com/2010/01/obelisk-at-mount-edgcumbe.html" target="_blank">Plymouth Local History: Obliske - fascinating stuff!</a> <br /><a href="http://plymouthlocalhistory.blogspot.com/2010/01/tamerton-foliot.html" target="_blank">Plymouth Local History: Tamerton Foliot</a> <br /><a href="http://www.highton-ridley.co.uk/blog/2010/01/another-from-dartmoor-in-thaw.html" target="_blank">Highton-Ridley: Dartmoor Thaw</a> <br /><a href="http://dadsdaily2010.blogspot.com/2010/01/2010-025-give-us-hand.html" target="_blank">TGP: Give us a hand</a> <br /><a href="http://tgphotos-bus-and-coach.blogspot.com/2010/01/go-ahead-oxford-then-newquay.html" target="_blank">TGP: Go Ahead Oxford and Newquay</a> <br /> <br /> <table border="0" cellspacing="10" cellpadding="2" width="839"><tbody> <tr> <td valign="top" width="419"><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/CSCYz4g9Lxv6rOZbT1QMoQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img border="0" align="left" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_r7QPHuRQWTI/Sy9hEEXlymI/AAAAAAAAA1E/ca_1pzy5HgA/s800/TwitterBadge.jpg" width="50" /></a> <!-- Twitter table starts here -->First on Twitter / Facebook 27 Jan 2010 <br /><font size="1"><!-- add new tweets here with date above (FDC) -->17:20 Dont forget we now operate services to Plympton, Chaddlewood, Estover, Mainstone and Ernesettle from Plymouth City Centre - why not give our Ugobus services a try <br /> <br /></font></td> <td valign="top" width="419"><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/CSCYz4g9Lxv6rOZbT1QMoQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img border="0" align="left" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_r7QPHuRQWTI/Sy9hEEXlymI/AAAAAAAAA1E/ca_1pzy5HgA/s800/TwitterBadge.jpg" width="50" /></a> Citybus on Twitter / Facebook 27 Jan 2010 <br /><font size="1"><!-- add new Citybus Tweets here (date above Citybus) --> <br />nothing to see here! <br /></font></td> </tr> </tbody></table> <!-- Twitter Logo Badge --> <h5><font size="1"> <br /></font><!-- Badges--><a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Plymouth/PlymothianTransitcom/90882633480"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_r7QPHuRQWTI/Sj-0-QOe6oI/AAAAAAAAApU/Z1q2Ds1O9M0/s288/PTFacebook.jpg" width="100" /></a> <a title="PlymTransit on Twitter" href="https://twitter.com/PlymTransit"><img alt="PlymTransit on Twitter" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_r7QPHuRQWTI/SktRBsOXxpI/AAAAAAAAAqQ/7fqUODXa0TM/s144/twitter-logo.jpg" width="80" /></a> </h5> </td> </tr> </tbody></table> <div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/11828686-4204895054684846203?l=www.plymothiantransit.com' alt='' /></div><img alt="" src="http://xfruits.com/didbygraham/?id=67157&amp;s_item=493577316" />

Critics have long claimed that BSF is too complex and imposes unnecessary delays and costs on councils. The programme began in 2004 with the aim of rebuilding half of all secondary schools, remodelling just over a third and refurbishing the rest. But just 42 of the planned 200 schools were rebuilt in the first four years of the scheme. </p> <p></p> <p></p> <p> <br /> <br /><a title="http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2009/aug/30/building-schools-future-planning-costs" href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2009/aug/30/building-schools-future-planning-costs">http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2009/aug/30/building-schools-future-planning-costs</a> <br /></p> <p></p> <p></p> For original photo under creative commons by <b>pit-yacker</b> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/pit-yacker/246985955/">click here </a> <br /> <br />Numberzz is back after a summer break! <div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4594518909692750857-8920390719782577491?l=numberzz.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div><img alt="" src="http://xfruits.com/didbygraham/?id=67157&amp;s_item=455554588" />

The £<strong>2.3 billion </strong>Automotive Assistance Programme was launched in a blaze of publicity on March 11, when ministers predicted it would aid more than 100 carmakers and suppliers. The Government said at the time the scheme would provide “real help now”. Asked about the loans made, Ian Gregory, director of the automotive sector at the Department for Business, Industry and Skills, said: “<strong><font color="#ff0000">It’s a round number — it’s none</font></strong>. I can’t pretend to be anything other than disappointed.”</p>Daily Express<br /><br />For original photo under creative commons by <b>topsy</b> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/topsy/117177047/"> click here </a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4594518909692750857-767177391129623081?l=numberzz.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div><img alt="" src="http://xfruits.com/didbygraham/?id=67157&amp;s_item=455554591" />
